Frank N Fixmer

Frank N. Fixmer
1913 - 2000

Frank Fixmer is recognized for 45 years of service as a public and industrial professional forester. He worked with the CCC program from 1933-38; with the Wisconsin Conservation Department from 1938- 44; and as the first Forest Manager for the Mosinee Paper Corporation from 1944- 78.

As Mosinee forester, he pioneered machine tree planting, conversion of scrub oak sites to pine and the first aerial application of insecticides by an industrial owner. Mr. Fixmer served on the Wisconsin Tree Farm Committee, was a co-founder and director of the Wisconsin Woodland Owners Association; and a co-founder of the Forest History Association of Wisconsin in 1976 where he continued as executive secretary. He served on the Conservation Commission Forestry and Forest Pest Control Advisory Committee (1957-72), assisting in the crafting of the Forest Pest Control Act of 1958, He has received numerous awards, elected a SAF Fellow, the Tree Farm and Forest History Distinguished Service Awards, and the SAF John Macon Award.

Inducted into the Wisconsin Forestry Hall of Fame
