Community Activities
Wisconsin communities are invited to help recognize a special year for forestry in Wisconsin during 2004. Governor Doyle has declared 2004 as the “Year of Wisconsin Forestry” in recognition of 100 years of professional forestry in Wisconsin. In addition to the centennial of the state forestry program, many other Wisconsin forestry-related organizations are celebrating landmark anniversaries.
Logging played a crucial role in the founding and history of many communities throughout Wisconsin and forestry continues to play critical economic, social and ecological roles in even more Wisconsin communities today. This special year provides an excellent opportunity for you to recognize the past, present and future importance of the forest resource to the life of your community. In his proclamation, Governor Doyle urges Wisconsin residents, organizations and local governments to ‘support the “Year of Wisconsin Forestry” in its mission to promote a broader understanding of the role of forests and the many aspects of sustainable forest management today.”
The goal is to have events and activities throughout the state during all seasons of the year. Communities are encouraged to host a special “Year of Wisconsin Forestry” event, activity or project for residents and visitors or add a forestry theme to an ongoing event or project.
