Other organizations joining the celebration:

U.S.D.A. Forest Service
Research Branch:
Since 1910, Forest Service researchers have helped people make the most of forest products such as paper, through research at the Forest Products Lab in Madison. For example, used envelopes used to go into garbage dumps by the billions because postage stamps gummed up recycling machines. Presented with this problem, Forest Service researchers, working with manufacturers, developed a new pressure-sensitive adhesive that can be recycled without "gumming the works!" Visit the Forest Products Lab online (http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/) to learn more about their long history of innovative research.

Another goal of the Forest Service research program has been to help people better understand how ecosystems respond to changing conditions. On countless plots, Forest Service scientists track ecological conditions and monitor any changes. The Forest Service has one of the world's largest research organizations entirely dedicated to conservation. Read about current ecological, social and economic research related to forests in the Lake States at: http://www.ncrs.fs.fed.us/

National Forest Branch:
Wisconsin has one National Forest, the Chequamegon-Nicolet. Visit it online at: Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Facts

State and Private Forestry Branch:

It is the federal leader in providing technical and financial assistance to landowners and resource managers to help sustain the Nation's forests and protect communities and the environment from wildland fires.
